Over the last several years, Habitat for Humanity at Virginia Tech has held its premier fundraising event, Shack-A-Thon. The event, which invites student organizations to build and live in shacks for a week to fundraise and advocate for the need of sustainable housing in the New River Valley. During Shack-A-Thon in 2018, total fundraising dollars passed $52,000. This amount has been aided by an anonymous, dollar to dollar matching donor who has contributed $25,000 to the project. The donor agreed to partner with Habitat for Humanity at Virginia Tech under the promise that total funds raised from Shack-A-Thon would contribute to a student-designed, student-organized, and student-built home.
