Helping Veterans Age-in-Place Posted November 17, 2014 by Terry Carter

Our Critical Home Repair Network helped a 90 year old veteran who raised five children with his wife in the home they built. The very common design of a window over the bathtub was used. As the children aged and times changed a shower was added to the set up. Over time that wood window took on water and began its destruction. This is a very common scenario in homes 50-60 years old. Our vet is healthy and still mobile but climbing over that tub each time posed an unnecessary risk.

The Solution: take the bathroom down to studs and rebuild with a walk-in, low threshold shower, a high seat commode and add grab bars.  Home Depot Foundation paid for the materials to make this possible. Thank you to Home Depot Foundation, Hearts and Hammers, VT Habitat for Humanity, Honey- Do LLC for making this possible.
